Brief Summary of Work for this Position: The Office of the Provost is seeking a temporary Communications Associate to assist with executive communications projects that enhance the work of the provost (chief academic officer for the University of North Carolina Wilmington) and the Division of Academic Affairs. As the office that operationalizes the largest division at UNCW, the working environment is fast-paced with a mix of anticipated projects and a high volume of new projects. As the Communications Associate, you will assist the Director of Marketing and Communications with executive communications utilized in organizational administration, especially as it pertains to higher education.
The Communications Associate will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications. Duties will include drafting executive communications, proofreading speaking engagement remarks, assisting in creating presentation materials, preparing monthly divisional messages, proofreading publications, drafting select announcements and news items, digital content management (website and SharePoint), and conducting research as needed.
This position will be expected to 1) work autonomously with regular check-ins, 2) maintain tact and discretion, 3) respond in a swift manner to all supervisor queries and requests, and 4) meet all agreed upon work benchmarks and final deadlines. Tasks and associated timelines will vary, which require the Communications Associate to maintain high levels of time management, task prioritization, and self-maintained organization. Opportunities for collaborative work with other partners will be available to ensure materials and communications are well developed and constructed within university standards.
A hybrid work schedule is envisioned for this position, with some days fully remote and other days onsite. The option to work fully onsite is also available. Weekly check-ins will be scheduled by the supervisor; additional meetings may also occur. All equipment identified as necessary by the supervisor for this position will be provided (e.g. laptop, software).
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

- 3 or more years of professional work experience in communications positions.
