Job Description:

Position Purpose

Under the direction of the Grounds Superintendent, Grounds Worker Lead, and/or Crew Leader/Ice Rink, performs and maintains skilled grounds work on lawns, beds, landscaping, practice and playing fields and other athletic facilities. Seasonally operates Zamboni ice machine and performs related tasks necessary for the care and operation of Meehan Ice Rink. This position is considered essential. Personnel may be required to respond to campus emergencies both during and off shift.

Schedule:
October-March: Monday-Friday, 3:30pm-midnight (ice rink/zamboni operator)
April-September: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm (groundsworker)

Job Qualifications & Competencies
  • High School education or equivalency required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year's experience in landscape maintenance, including the care of gardens and borders, trees, shrubs, turf and general grounds. Candidates must possess working knowledge of plant, shrub and tree care and lifecycles with three (3) or more years experience preferred.
  • Six (6) months' cleaning experience or demonstrated ability to perform custodial duties required.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license required
  • Must maintain required license(s) as a condition of employment
  • Must have a working knowledge of tree, shrub, turf and general landscape maintenance.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to follow directions and instructions.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain the Zamboni ice machine and ice edging machine.
  • Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and precautions by assigned personnel.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to read, write and follow written instructions.


Additional physical demands and working conditions:

  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted and perform physical labor.
  • Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolding, and lifts at heights up to 100 feet.
  • Must be able to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • This position is considered essential, on-site. Personnel may be required to respond to campus emergencies both during and off shift.
