Job Description:
SUMMARY:
The position provides essential services and support to the veterinary technicians and veterinarians within the Animal Care Facility at Brown. These may include assisting with: Clinical and research procedures: setting up for animal procedures, preparing surgical packs, transporting animals, observing animals, maintaining procedure areas in good condition, providing laundry services, assisting with packing animals for exportation. Health monitoring and well-being programs: performing rounds in multiple facilities, observing health status of multiple species and recording findings for vet techs, stocking enrichment devices in multiple locations, preparing and administering enrichment schedules, administering medications, vaccinations, and treatments, collecting lab samples. Other routine and ad hoc compliance and regulatory matters as directed: Perform census, tag chemicals, assist with paperwork relating to compliance documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required: Associate's Degree in Animal Science, Veterinary
Technology, or related field and/or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
- 1-2 years of experience as a lab technician, veterinary
assistant, or similar position in a research or veterinary clinic
environment with direct related experience with research
animals.
- Preferred: AALAS certification (ALAT, LAT or LATG) or
Veterinary Assistant certificate from a NAVTA/AVA approved
program.
- Ability to recognize normal and abnormal behavior in a variety
of animal species.
- Good attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with
all levels of University personnel.
- Basic computer skills.
- Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and
inclusive campus community.
- The ability to adapt to changes that occur with short
notice.
Criminal and education background check required.
