Description
ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC, THEATRE & DANCE. As a comprehensive performing arts school set in one of the world’s finest public institutions of higher education, the School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD) is deeply engaged in the creation, practice, scholarship, and pedagogy of music, theatre, and dance. The undergraduate Design & Production degree program is part of the Department of Theatre & Drama. D&P students have broad interests and participate in course work in all concentrations (stage management, lighting, scenery & costumes). They represent diverse identities, backgrounds and experiences. The Department commits to inquiry and self-assessment, ongoing dialogue, and above all, to actions that will lead to equitable theatre processes.
Qualifications:
MFA; visibility of national or international professional experience in lieu of terminal degree may be considered
· Active professional practice in the entertainment industry evidenced by a regional, commercial, and national record of achievements in theatrical lighting design and adjacent fields.
· Ability to teach advanced lighting design courses offered in a BFA curriculum
· Ability to provide industry standard accurate drawings and supporting paperwork, and model clear, collaborative communication for and with design and production students and production teams
· Ability to use and teach industry standard software such as Vectorworks and Lightwright; working knowledge of ETC light boards.
· Demonstrated supervisory and collaborative abilities; ability to adhere to production timelines
· Superlative organizational practices, time management skills, and communication skills
· Demonstrated ability to empower, advocate for, and value a a broad range of students of diverse identities and experiences as shown through pedagogy, mentoring, and related activities
Preferred:
· Evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level or equivalent excellence in teaching related experiences
· Ability to teach digital media, projection design, and / or emerging visualization technologies

*University Productions (UProd) presents nine fully supported curricular shows each year, serving the departments of Theatre & Drama, Musical Theatre, Dance, and Voice in three different venues. These productions are directed by faculty and guest directors, and crewed by performance and design and production majors. Additional faculty, guests, and BFA students complete the creative production teams. Undergraduate Design & Production majors work as stage managers, shop assistants, and technicians for each production; some advanced students may design costumes, sets or lighting for these productions. UProd manages all of the production shops and facilities including a professionally staffed electrics shop. Students work in the shop as work study, paid staff, or for credit.
