Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geography will be responsible for teaching introductory and advanced undergraduate geography courses in their area of specialization, pursuing external research funding, publishing peer-reviewed scholarship, and participating in service activities for the university and profession.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Geography
- Specialization in human-environment interactions
- Strong skills in GIS
- Research agenda focused on one or more of the following: human adaptation to climate change, climate migration, political ecology, environmental sustainability, hazards and vulnerability, the effects of climate change on human health and/or historical geographies of any of the above.
- Specialization in a region of the Global South.
- Strong record of, or potential for, external funding and desire to collaborate on interdisciplinary research teams.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in, or strong preparation for, university geography teaching and desire to develop new advanced geography courses in area of research specialization.
Department Information
The Department of History and Geography (https://www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/liberal-arts/departments/history) offers three Bachelor’s degree plans, a minor in Geography, and numerous other minor options at the undergraduate level; at the graduate level, the Department offers M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in History, as well as a graduate certificate in Archival Administration. Along with offering core-compliant courses in geography and US history to students from across the University, we have over 300 majors and over 60 graduate students. Our award-winning faculty offer courses that span the globe and encompass historical eras from the early modern era to our own.
The College of Liberal Arts houses twelve departments in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Fine Arts, as well as programs in Medical Humanities, Disability Studies and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies
