Duties & Responsibilities

Position Summary/Overview:




This role will assist Safety & Risk Management (SRM) team members with ensuring that the university maintains compliance with federal and state requirements that apply to several areas of health and safety. The individual will work under the direction of the Industrial Hygienist with assistance from the Occupational Health Nurse. Work duties involve Industrial Hygienist associated tasks such as fit testing, noise monitoring, IAQs, inventory management, and more.




For the Respirator fit testing component of the position, the Industrial Hygiene Technician has the following duties:

Fit test and train both university and hospital employees on the proper use of respirators.

Manage all applicable databases for Fit Testing and other IH duties

Maintain respirator and IH equipment inventory.

Manage scheduling fit test events and appointments.

Track and present data on fit test volumes for the health system and university.




The Industrial Hygiene Technician will also learn and assist with monitoring and assessment projects under the Industrial Hygienist's direction. This includes:




Monitoring workplace hazards such as noise, particulates (mold/dust), and gasses and vapors

Ordering and distributing sample media

Assisting with managing data and confirming accuracy

Organizing, tracking, and assisting with calibration of industrial hygiene equipment

Generating and updating standard operating procedures and SRM documents

Interpreting results and writing formal monitoring reports

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:




Ability to work with others in a team environment

Excellent communications skills. Ability to communicate with university members both orally and in writing

Proficiency with a computer including Google Suite or Microsoft Office experience

Ability to perform assigned tasks independently without constant supervision

Exceptional organizational skills including: attention to detail, time management, prioritization, ability to meet deadlines

Ability to create and follow technical procedures

Capable of using sensitive electronic equipment

Ability to lift 25 lbs.

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
