Special Instructions to Applicant:
The Department of Fine Arts at Auburn University at Montgomery seeks dynamic candidates for a tenure-track position in Graphic Design. Applicants should be well-versed in user-interface design, particularly the look and feel of websites, and be able to teach a variety of graphic design related courses as well as two-dimensional design. AUM is also in the early stages of exploring a program in video game design. Departmental enrollment typically includes over 100 students pursuing a degree within Fine Arts, and it is not unusual for 65-70% of those individuals to be seeking a BFA with a concentration in Graphic Design. Design students have won numerous ADDY Awards and regularly engage in real world design opportunities with local firms, businesses, and city government.
The department’s graphic design program utilizes two graphic arts labs with industry standard software. The design faculty have won numerous competitive design awards and have been grant recipients. They are excited to gain a colleague interested in further developing the curriculum while building enrollment.
Responsibilities will include teaching a 4/3 load (21 credit hours per year), however, faculty with ongoing research and creative activity resulting in publications usually receive a course release for a normal 3/3 load. Internal funding and professional improvement leave to support creative activity are available. Participation in program assessment is expected and service to the department must be provided as needed. Willingness to assist in the recruitment and retention of students is required. Approved salary is $54,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Anticipated start date is August 2025. Review of applications will begin September 20, 2024 and continue until the position is filled.
