Reporting directly to the Provost, the Dean of the College of Business involves overseeing, administering, and coordinating all educational activities related to the College. This position includes developing strategic directions in cooperation with the faculty, advancing the College's initiatives, and integrating its activities within the framework of The American University of Kurdistan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for delivering in a student-receptive manner the knowledge, skills, and experiences each student needs to successfully achieve course learning outcomes as outlined in course syllabi.
  • Create, post, and articulate objectives and program/course learning outcomes in order to fulfill students' and stakeholders' expectations.
  • Create or oversee the creation of curricula and course syllabi, course handouts, lectures, labs, presentations, and other course materials required to deliver the knowledge, soft and hard skills as per the objectives and program/course learning outcomes.
  • Promote the visibility, breadth, and impact of COB on the community, in collaboration with AUK academic leaders and faculty.
  • Enhance the research capacity at COB by leading research initiatives and cultivating research opportunities.
  • Teach a minimum 2, maximum 3 courses per semester (Fall, Spring, Summer).
  • Create course rubrics to assess each student's performance related to the course's learning objective and to identify areas for student improvement.
  • Assist students in mastering course material by being available through "office hours" and at other times to answer questions and assist students to better understand the material in one-on-one or small group sessions. Also, oversee the implementation of this regulation throughout the college.
  • Assign grades and maintain course/student records in accordance with regulations and submit grades and records by established deadline.
  • Serve on university committees to enhance department and university policies and processes which enhance student academic and career success.
  • Attend all required university events such as commencement, faculty meetings, etc.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the community, professionals, foundations, and companies that support institutional growth.
  • Keep abreast of developments in their field by reading current literature, conducting substantial research, and participating in professional conferences.
  • Collaborate with the faculty on a number of interdisciplinary research projects, secure research funding, and teach undergraduate (and later graduate) courses.
  • Participate in the effort to promote quality assurance and institutional effectiveness at AUK.
  • Perform other appropriate and reasonable required duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
