Reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Budget and Finance,
the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is the senior administrator
responsible for the strategic direction of the Information
Technology Services (ITS) department. The CIO is also responsible
for providing an overarching information technology environment
which includes complex but cohesive infrastructure systems and
services to meet the varying needs of the University. The CIO, in
consultation with various campus leaders, strategically plans the
direction of technology in support of the university's mission. The
employee is expected to partner with senior university leaders and
stakeholders in developing and implementing innovative and cost
effective technology initiatives and programs.
This position oversees IT strategy to help lead and support teaching, learning, research, and administrative services. The university's IT environment is defined and managed by the Information Technology Services (ITS) department with a staff of approximately 35. Many elements of the IT environment are hosted on campus, but the primary systems are increasingly provided by off-campus partners within the UNC System, the UNC General Administration, and other consortia or vendor partners. The current ITS leadership team consists of an Associate CIO and 5 Directors: Academic Technology Support, Auxiliary Services, Client Technology Support, Enterprise Systems and Applications, and Networks, Infrastructure, and Systems.
