Job Summary
Teach and develop courses and labs in the area of Mechanical Engineering using a variety of methods, as well as offer services supporting students and the department in coordination with department's strategies and goals. Tenure status: Non-Tenure renewable. This position is in HEC.
Essential Functions
- Teach, develop, update, and assess undergraduate, and if appropriate, graduate courses and labs within the Mechanical Engineering program and related areas using a variety of methods and delivery modes.
- Introduce and supervise projects and lab experiments within courses and labs, as well as in connection with industrial and external partners in a student-centered environment.
- Develop and conduct experiential education settings, and introduce innovative education methods, particularly in labs and hands-on projects.
- Collaborate with colleagues inside and outside the department and provide services to advance the body of engineering education knowledge and practice in alignment with department's strategy and goals.
Required Qualifications
- An earned Master's in mechanical engineering or equivalent is required as a minimum for the lecturer position, and an earned terminal degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required as a minimum for the Assistant / Associate / Full Professor of Instruction position. Rank will be commensurate with experience and credentials.
- Other credentials such as professional licensure or industrial experience would be considered as supporting credentials.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a nontenure-track faculty position at the lecturer or Assistant / Associate / Full Professor of Instruction level to start in September 2024, in the Houston Engineering Center (HEC). An earned Master's in mechanical engineering or equivalent is required as a minimum for the lecturer position, and an earned terminal degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required as a minimum for the Assistant / Associate / Full Professor of Instruction position. Rank will be commensurate with experience and credentials. Successful candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, and commitment to excellence in teaching using a variety of methods and delivery modes. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to engineering education in a student-centered environment while working on projects for, and connecting with, industrial and external partners. Candidates with demonstrated ability to design and conduct experiential education settings, particularly in labs and hands-on projects are highly preferred. Other credentials such as professional licensure or industrial experience would be considered as supporting credentials. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
