The college continues to pilot the First-Year Mentoring Program which began during the 2020-21 academic year.  The program was designed to assist 50 new AAS students of color and those who are in or were in the foster care system in their transition to college by pairing them with an upper-class student who serves as their mentor for the academic year. Students in the program participate in activities related to career development, student support including the programs sponsored by the Writing and Speaking Studio, Academic Skills/Tutoring, Student Activities, Career and Internship Services, and the Academic Advisement Center.

The individual in this position will also collaborate with the Director of the Academic Advisement Center in implementing the Early Alert Initiative for AAS students and engaging at-academically risk students through meetings, referrals, and programming. 

  • Continuing the overall development and growth of the First-Year Mentoring Program
  • Recruiting, training, educating, and managing the peer mentors and mentees
  • Coordinating with the 5 liaisons of the FYMP  from the areas of Academic Advisement, Academic Skills/Tutoring Center, Career and Internship Services, Student Life, and the Writing and Speaking Studio on the development of programming and assessment of activities
  • Developing an academic roadmap to assist at-risk students in identifying ways to improve their overall academic standing.                
  • Managing budget, grants, and conducting program assessments.  
  • Partnering with the Director of Academic Advisement on identifying and engaging AAS students who earned less than a 2.0 at the end of the term and those identified as at-risk as part of the Early Alert process.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 


Requirements:

  • Bachelors required; Masters preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years working in higher education in areas such as advisement, registrar, or other student support areas required. 
  • The successful candidate must have a record of experience working with college students in advisement or a related career field that demonstrates their ability to engage, mentor, develop programming and budgeting.  
  • Experience in First-Year programming and retention initiatives retention preferred.

  • Assist FYMP liaisons in developing engaging programs that promote connection to the FIT campus, student development, and intellectual growth.

Additional Information:

**This is a part-time, hourly grant funded, in-person position, 25 hours per week thru June 30, 2022**

Work Schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
