Job Summary

The Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology Development fosters a vibrant and supportive atmosphere for our students, scholars, and researchers as they drive to innovate, commercialize new technologies, and pioneer new companies that will impact our North Texas communities and the global economy for decades into the future. The Executive Director of Operations for the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology Development will be responsible for ensuring alignment and continuity of operations across the organization. Role reports to UTA’s Chief Entrepreneurship and Innovation Officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Facilitate CETD’s transition from legacy technology commercialization practices to a fully integrated organization with multiple operational units. This includes training and supporting staff to assume increasing responsibility for operational excellence.
  • Build and manage internal systems for electronic and wet signature process, routing, execution, logging, and retrieval of all correspondence, contracts, and legal documents, government reporting obligations, licensee reporting, visual and licensee compliance, and correspondence and communications.
  • Support the development, launch, and implementation of new strategic initiatives, including drafting and managing RFPs, grant applications, and other solicitations.
  • Build and manage data and business management systems and internal dashboard architecture, including business intelligence reporting, data analysis and data sharing.
  • Develop budgets, fiscal projections, and reports; monitor IP budgets, and utilization of Gap Funding grants. Ensure inventor distributions are timely and accurate.
  • Liaise with UTA and VPRI staff on HR and other operational needs and responsibilities.
  • The role will be expected to work primarily on campus providing face-to-face programming and be available to meet with students, faculty, and other stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (MS, MBA, JD) in relevant area with five (5) years direct experience in an operations leadership role and/or equivalent combination of relevant experience, education, or training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with university academic programs or providing administrative leadership.
  • Strategic planning expertise.
  • Previous experience working in an entrepreneurial, investment, or corporate setting.
  • Successful track record of establishing solid outreach mechanisms and of persuading external audiences to participate in university programs, panels, conferences, mentoring programs, etc.
  • Experience building and retaining trusted relationships among industry and public sector stakeholders.
  • Experience developing new programs and strategic partnerships.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proven capability to build and manage high functioning teams.
  • Deep understanding of higher education, including research funding, workforce development, and traditional technology transfer models.
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and manage junior staff and teams.
  • Ability to perform in highly entrepreneurial, fast paced environments with continual change with comfort.
  • Professional communications, operational, and strategic planning skills.
