  • Drew University seeks an AOD Coordinator, Counseling and Wellness Outreach in the Counseling Department. The candidate will be responsible for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention efforts around substance use and mental health. This candidate must be skilled in assessment and intervention for students displaying high-risk substance use behaviors. Clinician must also be competent in treating co-occurring disorders as well as other common presenting mental health issues within the campus community.

    The Clinician will develop and facilitate outreach with the following goals: provide evidence-based interventions to increase community knowledge of AOD safety, teach harm reduction strategies, encourage up-stander interventions as well as improve overall wellness/well-being.

    This is a 10-month position reporting to the Executive Director of the Counseling Center.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Direct Clinical Services:

    The clinician provides individual assessment, counseling, and referral to students with varying levels of alcohol and drug involvement. Clinician collaborates with the Office of Conduct and Community Standards to address campus AOD policy issues. Clinician is responsible to manage student compliance via campus conduct software for those sanctioned with alcohol/drug policy violations. Maintain confidentiality and meet all ethical standards associated with the practice of psychology.

    Clinician provides individual and group counseling to students with co-occurring issues, as well as common mental health concerns within the college community. The clinician regularly assesses and manages crises.

    2. Outreach

    The clinician chairs a campus task force focusing on “well-being/wellness.” Topics include: AOD harm reduction, mental health awareness, strengthening the sense of community through up-stander training, and improving community resilience.

    The clinician will work in peer education: recruit, advise, train, and assist with program development for students interested in mental health education.

    3. Presentations/Workshops

    Responsible for providing orientation seminar(s) about AOD policies and expectations regarding behavior on campus.

    Trains professional staff, faculty, and para-professional student staff on AOD policies, trends, risk reduction techniques, and intervention strategies.

    4. On/Off Campus Committees:

    CIRT Team (Conduct Incident Response Team) meets weekly to discuss high-risk students and students with conduct, mental health, and substance abuse issues.

    Campus Life and Student Affairs Leadership team to discuss campus happenings and increase collaboration efforts.

    5. Professional Development - Keep up to date with best practices and recent research with regard to special populations as well as interventions and treatments.

    Required Qualifications:
  • Master's in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work, required with appropriate license (or license eligible) with specialization in the assessment and treatment of Alcohol and Other Drug use (LCADC).

  • Minimum of three years experience working with young adult/college-age population with substance use difficulties. Ability to use social media to interact effectively with the campus community, particularly students.

  • Ability to use the following platforms: Canva, PowerPoint, Google Slides
