Job Summary:

The UW Population Health Institute seeks a project coordinator to support adolescent health initiatives at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS). The Adolescent Health Coordinator is based in the Family Health Section, Bureau of Community Health Promotion, Division of Public Health, DHS. Under the general supervision of the Child and Adolescent Health Unit Supervisor, the coordinator will manage the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) program which provides evidence-based positive youth development and social emotional learning programs for middle school-aged youth in Wisconsin. Responsibilities include administering contracts for SRAE sub-grantees, providing fiscal and programmatic oversight, coordinating trainings and technical assistance, conducting needs assessments, and leading quality improvement efforts. The coordinator will also play a key role in federal grant applications and reporting, and will work toward statewide adolescent health goals including supporting adolescent health efforts under the Title V Maternal and Child Health Block grant. This position involves high-level independent tasks and technical assistance on a statewide basis, coordinating with various departments and external partners to improve adolescent health outcomes in areas such as prevention, healthy behaviors, and mental health. This position will also provide content expertise to internal and external partners in topics related to adolescent health and positive youth development, and will be expected to apply a health equity lens to their work.

Key activities will consist of:
- Responsible for oversight and management of Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) programs
- Administer contracts for SRAE sub-grantees and provide fiscal and programmatic oversight
- Coordinate trainings, needs assessments, program implementation, and outcome monitoring
- Provide leadership for federal grant application and reporting
- Support adolescent health focused activities and contracts under the Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant
- Support statewide goals for adolescent health and wellbeing
- Promote diversity and inclusion in program planning, development, and evaluation
- Coordinate with various departments and external partners to improve adolescent health outcomes

Responsibilities: Plans, analyzes, manages, coordinates, and tracks projects and quality improvement efforts for processes, procedures, and systems. Provides management consulting to improve organizational results.
  • 25% Develops, schedules, coordinates, and prioritizes project work plans in accordance with specifications and resource limitations
  • 10% Develops, enhances, and maintains operational standards and systems to support project teams
  • 10% Analyzes data and trends, compiles progress reports, and provides appropriate recommendations or conclusions
  • 15% Establishes, monitors, coordinates, and controls project budgets versus actual expenditures and budget reporting
  • 40% Serves as the initial point of contact for the project(s), serves on committees, and attends meetings representing the interests of the project(s)

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in public health, social work, sociology, or related field

Qualifications:

Required:
- Professional or lived experience related to adolescent health or youth empowerment and engagement initiatives
- Minimum one year of experience with project management or coordination
- Minimum one year of grant management experience

Preferred:
- Knowledge of public health programs, principles, and policy, systems, and environmental change practices
- Experience with federal grant oversight including preparing and monitoring contracts and budgets
- Familiarity with the Positive Youth Development framework and Life Course Model
- Experience with health equity and social justice initiatives

Skills and Abilities:
- Critical thinking skills including the ability to raise vital questions, gather relevant information, identify solutions, and communicate effectively with others
- Flexibility and resourcefulness to work independently and in a team environment.

- Commitment to fostering and promoting respect and professionalism in the workplace in working with various internal and external partners.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
