Assistant Professor of Psychology (Developmental Psychology)

The Department of Psychology at Amherst College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor from candidates with a PhD in developmental psychology, beginning July 1, 2025. This appointment is ideal for candidates with a strong commitment to teaching and an active research program that can involve bright undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research focuses on adolescence and/or emerging adulthood. The successful candidate will be able to develop and teach courses that include introductory psychology, developmental psychology, and an advanced seminar; will supervise honors projects; and will contribute to the overall academic environment of the psychology department and the college. The teaching load is two courses per semester.

The psychology department is housed in the award-winning science center, with dedicated research space for each faculty member. In addition, Amherst College offers generous support for faculty research and teaching, including fully paid sabbaticals, funds for travel to professional meetings, and summer support of undergraduate research collaborators.

Located in Western Massachusetts, with close proximity to Springfield, Massachusetts, as well as Hartford, Connecticut, Amherst participates with Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and with the University of Massachusetts in the Five College Consortium. The five institutions are located within 11 miles of one another and about 80 miles west of Boston.

Candidates are also asked to arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation to be submitted. The individual must have a Ph.D. in hand or have fulfilled all requirements for the degree by the start of the appointment.
