Job Description Summary
Research Specialist A

The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a full-time Research Specialist A to work under the direction of the Principle Investigator, and perform duties associated with projects aiming to use gene therapy to tackle inherited retinal disorders (IRDs). Research approaches include gene augmentation, genome editing, and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) retinal organoid modeling. This position is contingent upon funding.

Research Specialist B

: This Research Specialist B will serve work as a research technician in the laboratory of Dr. Arupa Ganguly. The employee will perform all aspects of DNA isolation, mutation detection in human disease associated genes, real-time Q-PCR analysis for gene dosage and mosaicism analysis and other relevant functions of the laboratory. Experience with performing or analyzing bioinformatics of next generation sequencing techniques on DNA or RNA preferred.

Job Responsibilities A

• Assist laboratory research, and record and analyze data.
• Draft induced pluripotent stem cell lines, differentiations and maintenance of retinal organoids from iPSCs.
• Cell and molecular biology experiments related to DNA, RNA and protein from cell lines and organoids.
• Collect data and share with PI
• Order research items.
• Learn to design new research experiments along with preparing data for publications and presentations.
• Participate in helping support lab operations under the supervision of the lab manager.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Biology, chemistry, or related science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• Experience with induced pluripotent stem cells and differentiation to retinal organoids or other organoid models is highly desirable.

• Manage laboratory research, and record and analyze data.
• Maintain induced pluripotent stem cell lines, differentiations and maintenance of retinal organoids from iPSCs.
• Perform Cell and molecular biology experiments related to DNA, RNA and protein from cell lines and organoids.
• Execute gene editing experiments in cell lines and retinal organoids.
• Learn to design new research experiments along with preparing data for publications and presentations.
• Participate in helping support lab operations under the supervision of the lab manager.
