Please Note: In order to be considered an applicant for this position, you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Appointment will be contingent upon completion of a physical and background check.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months immediately preceding the date of the test. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test.

This is a provisional appointment. Selected candidate will need to sit, pass and be eligible on the next available Rensselaer County Civil Service Exam for Printing Machine Operator in order to be considered for permanent appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or a High School Equivalency Diploma and one-year experience in the operation and routine maintenance of offset printing machinery and related equipment (OR) an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Please Note: The successful candidate must take and pass the Civil Service exam for Printing Machine Operator, when offered, and be reachable on the Civil Service list to qualify for permanent appointment.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Printing Machine Operator reports to the Print Shop Supervisor or his/her designee and performs work under general supervision allowing for exercise of independent judgment in carrying out assignments in accordance with definitely defined procedures and performs the following duties:

• Receives and fills work orders for printing work such as forms, academic handouts, brochures, booklets, posters and related materials.

• Operates digital production copiers to complete printing assignments.

• Operates related finishing equipment such as bookletmakers, collators, staplers, binders, cutters and related equipment.

• Makes necessary adjustments to paper feed and other machine parts.

• Cleans, performs maintenance and makes minor repairs to machines as needed.

• Operates and maintains inkjet address printer and poster plotters as needed.

• Assists with completion of poster and signage jobs, including output, lamination, mounting, trimming and installation as needed.

• Maintains and updates records within the work order system to accurately reflect work order specifications and costs.

• Performs job scanning and electronic file merging as required from hard copy or digital files to desired final product.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

This is a full-time 12-month, 40-hour work week position with an hourly rate of $19.87. Start date is immediate.
