Reporting directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director of the Office of Institutional Analytics is a key member of the Provost’s Leadership Team and a key player in ensuring success for New Mexico’s flagship research university, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Institutional Analytics is an essential office for supporting the data-informed decision making of the university, directly supporting the Office of the Provost, the President’s Office, and the schools, colleges, and branch campuses of the university. The University of New Mexico is an institution like few others – an R1 institution, the largest health system in the state serving an incredibly diverse population, a flagship institution dedicated to access with a majority of our students coming from minoritized populations, a large Pell and First Gen student population, and an institution dedicated to Advancing New Mexico.
A successful candidate will possess a graduate or professional degree in a field which provides a strong background in research design, statistical analysis, and data visualization. The candidate should possess five years of professional experience in higher education in a relevant setting, ideally working with both student and employee data. The candidate must have experience in relevant computer applications, including R, SAS, or other statistical software, SQL, and Tableau or other data visualization software, and the ability to work with various information systems.
The Director of Institutional Analytics must have the leadership and management skill to oversee the Office of Institutional Analytics, and to also work with stakeholders across the institution and the state. The Director should also be excited by the prospect of working with a diverse group of colleagues and students, dedicated to student success, and excited by the values and goals of UNM 2040.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Institutional Analytics supervises a team of four Institutional Researchers and one Senior Institutional Researcher and is responsible for:
- The analysis and interpretation of faculty, employee, enrollment, financial aid, budget, and instructional activity data from enterprise systems, including historical and comparative data. Systematic mandated and recurring reporting of academic data in response to surveys and inquiries, including those from various publications and external agencies including federal IPEDS and state Higher Education Department (NMHED) reporting. Managing rapid responses to data inquiries from state agencies including NMHED, the Legislative Finance Committee, and the State of NM Department of Finance and Administration. Maintenance and improvement of a suite of reports and dashboards for institutional leadership such as the President and Provost and their staffs; Deans, and those reporting to them, relating to such topics as enrollment patterns, faculty/student data, admissions, and financial aid; and evolution of these reports and dashboards as external and internal circumstances evolve, and leadership questions change. Serving as liaison to, and responsibility for data submission to and capture of comparative peer data from IPEDS, NMHED, WICHE, and other external agencies; incorporation of comparative data into research activities and products as appropriate; and institutional representation at appropriate university, state, and national meetings. Conducting special studies and analyses, at the request of university officials. Managing the flow of ad-hoc requests to the Office of Institutional Analytics to ensure optimal service to the university while maintaining compliance with the relevant data governance and privacy policies. Collaborate with the Office of Assessment and Academic Program Review as well as the Enrollment Management Reporting Team to ensure that university stakeholders have access to clear, consistent, and accurate data for decision making. Outreach to constituencies within the university to promote data literacy and fluency with institutional data resources; Support ongoing data needs from Health & Health Sciences as well as the four 2-year branch campuses within the UNM System. Participating in relevant meetings and committees with Information Technologies, University leadership, statewide groups, and ongoing student success initiatives (Complete College America Accelerator, Hispanic Serving Research Universities Alliance, University Innovation Alliance, Generation Hope FamilyU Cohort, etc.). Providing data support for all these groups and activities. Oversight of staff professional development and skill building; ensuring compliance with office and institutional reporting policies and procedures.
