1 vacancy - working up t o 19 hours per week, hours vary based on departmental needs. May work evenings and weekends. This is a academic year position which typically runs from mid- August through mid-May.
Under the supervision of the Dean or Designee this position involves teaching classroom, laboratory and clinical courses in the Medical Assistant program. Clinical instruction is provided in acute and ambulatory care settings. Related duties include ordering supplies and equipment maintenance, evaluating student achievement, curriculum development and evaluation, helping to formulate departmental policy and procedures, evaluating program effectiveness, student advising and developing strategies to enhance student achievement, participating in division and department activities and other duties as assigned. May be required to teach on evenings or weekends.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
- Manage the classroom/laboratory.
- Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
- Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge or experience with engaged and service learning strongly preferred.
- Must be able to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
- Must have knowledge of assessment of student academic achievement techniques.
- Must meet Higher Learning Commission (HLC) standards (if applicable).
- Must be able to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds.
- Teaching – Must embrace and demonstrate the MATC Core Abilities and Standards of Teaching Excellence in development and delivery of instruction
Minimum Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or higher in any discipline. Health professions degree desired. -OR -
Associate degree in Medical Assistant program with seven (7) years (14,000) hours of work experience.
-OR -
Associate degree in Health professions related degree with seven (7) years (14,000) hours of work experience.
Occupational Experience:
Must have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time or equivalent (4000 hours) work experience relevant as a Medical Assistant. In addition, one of the following must be met:
- At least two (2) years of work experience must have occurred within the last five (5) years.
- Two (2) years of teaching Medical Assistant course work at the post-secondary level within the last five (5) years.
Per the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), must hold or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire date at least one of the following:
- Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by American Association of Medical Assistants.
- Current Certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
by The American Medical Technologist.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds with our without accommodation.

- Must satisfactorily complete health requirements for the
Healthcare Pathway, which include a criminal background check, drug
test and verification of immunizations.

- Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology.
- Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (eg. social networking applications).
- (Optional) Distance Learning Instruction - Experience with on-line, two-way video, ITV, and other methods of distance learning instruction.
Start Date:
This position supports the Healthcare Pathway and is available to start as soon as possible.
Hours:
Up to 19 hours weekly, in-person, primarily based out of the Downtown Campus. Hours vary based on departmental needs. May work evenings and weekends.
Salary:
Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise.
