Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: Counselor in the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services.
This position will participate in Counseling Service’s effort to develop a healthy campus community by providing mental health counseling to undergraduate and graduate students, responding to student mental health crisis requests, providing community outreach to promote emotional health, and consulting with faculty and staff to best serve the needs of students.

Human Services Coordinator II (GA60/61122890/PCLS202400136), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 06. Salary range: $46,655.00 (minimum) to $66,488.00 (midpoint). Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This position requires after hours on call duties on a rotational basis. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Counsels individuals/couples/groups who are experiencing psychological, developmental, career, and educational concerns.
Administers, scores, and interprets psychological assessments and provides on call crisis intervention to students who are experiencing psychological, developmental, career, and educational concerns on a rotation basis, both during business hours and after hours.
Advances campus outreach and consultative services on the prevention, recognition and treatment of psychological and behavioral problems for students, faculty, and staff.
Determines appropriate level of care and diagnosis by actively managing caseload, staffing critical cases, referring clients to campus partners, and completing all necessary documentation for each client according to legal and ethical guidelines.
Advises and serves as a liaison with assigned campus and community partners to provide research informed collaborate care and referral networks.
Qualifications
- Required Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree and professional experience in human services or social services programs. Independently licensed or license eligible as a professional counselor or related field in the state of SC.
- Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years of related experience preferred. Demonstrated record of successful performance in and commitment to the practice of counseling with both individuals and groups.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Assessment and interventions for a wide range of psychological disorders and developmental problems. Individual, couples and group counseling. Public presentations and community outreach methods. Consultation skills. Crisis interventions skills. Cultural humility. Ability to engage in continued learning to stay abreast of changes in counseling/psychology field.
