Job Summary:
The Editor position is located within WIDA's Communications and Marketing department and will report to the Assistant Director of Communications. This position will be responsible for reviewing and editing internal and external communications and materials, as well as collaborating with graphic design to create optimal layout and ease of use on WIDA publications. This position is also responsible for managing translations of communications and publications as needed. The Editor will handle auditing and remediating documents to ensure compliance with accessibility guidelines and collaborating across the team and the organization to support accessibility efforts, including editing internal and external communications and materials.
Working fully remote is an option for this position within the United States (working remotely internationally is not an option). Requests to work remotely would need to be reviewed based on the UW and School of Education (SoE) remote work policies and go through the SoE implementation process. * Minimum 3 years of experience in writing and editing
* Minimum 2 years of experience auditing and remediating documents (Word, Excel, PPT, PDF) accessibility based on Section 508 and/or W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to communicate in a timely, effective manner with external and internal clients
* Excellent editing and proofreading skills, including strong knowledge of grammar and punctuation
* Ability to work individually and in a collaborative team environment, managing multiple projects with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
* Action-oriented, self-starter who takes ownership of tasks and completes them in a timely manner
* Expertise with the Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat
* Knowledge of document accessibility best practices and processes
* Familiarity with AP and APA styles
* Experience collaborating with authors of complex technical reports to improve document accessibility
* Experience using screen-reader software, such as PAC, NVDA, or JAWS
Preferred:
* Experience developing and editing publications for families and/or schools, prior professional experience with and/or knowledge of PreK-12 education
* Writing and editing in Spanish and English-Spanish/Spanish-English translation
