General Maintenance/Service Worker
Description
The General Maintenance and Service Worker maintains and cares for Bread Loaf campus grounds and facilities. This position is a full-time, benefit eligible position working for the Rikert Outdoor Center from December to March at a rate of $17.47/hour. From April to November, the hiring range is $19.26 - $23.59/hour picking up and delivering materials, furniture and equipment to campus buildings and facilities.
Core Responsibilities:
- Operates equipment related to ground maintenance and building
maintenance including but not limited to commercial lawn mowers,
utility vehicles, snow plowing equipment, tractors, trash
compactors and various small engine tools.
- Performs routine well, sprinkler, sewer, and chlorine readings
and maintains records as instructed.
- Performs other duties as assigned to assist department in
obtaining and maintaining its mission.
- Performs associated facilities services maintenance work as
requested.
- Assist with winterizing of buildings.
- Performs miscellaneous carpentry and plumbing repairs to buildings or fixtures as needed.
Winter Ski Season (December - March):
- Performs trail maintenance and grooming, evaluates snow
conditions to assure skier safety, including but not limited to:
snow shoveling in designated areas, boundary maintenance, hazard
marking, and Nordic Center clean-up as directed by Nordic Center
Director. Operate snowmaking system.
- Receive direction from supervisor regarding when to start making snow and weekly shifts including some evening, night and/or weekend assignments. Must be capable of performing all duties outdoors for extended periods of time in harsh environments.
Requirements
- Must have knowledge of proper use of equipment and the ability
and willingness to learn to maintain all equipment used.
- High school education preferred. Organizational skills
required.
- Must have a valid driver's license, have ability to get a
college license and a good driving record.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and be
able to respond to a high volume of requests.
- General building maintenance, lawn mowing, trailer use and snow
removal is preferred.
- Prior snowmaking experience is helpful.
- Good interpersonal skills and must be a self-starter. Must be able to communicate both verbally and in written communications.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to do the following tasks occasionally: lift up to
100 lbs.; push up to 110 lbs.; pull up to 190 lbs.; carry up to 100
lbs.; crouch/kneel, twist/turn, reach and balance; use finger to
operate controls on power tools or truck.
- Must be able to do the following tasks on rare occasions:
crawl, sit and withstand vibration of hand drills on rare
occasions.
- Must be able to do the following tasks frequently: lift 40-80
lbs.; push and pull up to 50 lbs.; carry 40-80 lbs.; bend, squat
and climb stairs.
- Must be able to do the following tasks constantly: walking, standing, material handling (such as grip force of 80 lbs. with one hand to pull heavy loads on a dolly).
