Job Description

Under direct supervision of the Dean of the School of Science, Engineering and Mathematics, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Act as representative and liaison for the Office of the Dean in the School of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (SEM) for inter-departmental and School communications, meetings, events, and directives from the Dean and/or communications with other administrators, Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), other officials, staff, students, community members, and the media.
  • Represent the School by participating in on-going and ad hoc committees and workgroups, as assigned.
  • Maintain current and detailed knowledge of the Dean's office functions and operations such as screen incoming phones, correspondence, reports, forms, and records.
  • Provide support with research and investigating student faculty complaints, public inquires and issues.
  • Provider leadership and guidance to the AAs within the School, Interpret and explain complex School and NSHE policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit independent judgment, initiative, and discretion in making determinations on varied problems and situations.
  • Assist SEM Department Chairs with staff issues, grade appeals, substitution waivers, and student problems.
  • Maintain office records and electronic files, process Chair contracts, and coordinate the SEM Student Integrity Committee and Student Grade Appeal Committee.
  • Provide support for to area or manager as directed by the Dean.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: providing administrative/program support to professional staff and management; performing secretarial duties in support of a manager; coordinating communications between the manager, staff and program clientele; supervision of subordinate staff; researching information from internal and external sources; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Current knowledge of NSHE, CSN and School Policies and procedures.
  • Excellent skills in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Workday, Anaplan and Taskstream.
  • Minimum typing skills of 65 wpm.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment within defined parameters.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, as necessary, to meet critical deadlines.
  • Must be able to tolerate moderate noise levels, with frequent interruptions and multiple demands.


Starting Salary

Grade 29, Step 1 - $50,153.76

Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
