Job Summary/Basic Functions
EKU Division of Natural Areas Division Manager is responsible for protection, management, and education relevant to the natural resources under the jurisdiction of Eastern Kentucky University at all Division of Natural Area Sites including Lilley Cornett Woods Appalachian Ecological Research Station, Maywoods Environmental and Educational Laboratory, Taylor Fork Ecological Area, and Cardinal Lane Outdoor Laboratory.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelors in Natural Science, Natural Resources, Park Administration, or related field
Experience: Three years of related work experience is required.
Licensure & Certifications: Valid driver's license is required
Preferred Qualifications:
Job Duties:
- 25% - Management of Natural Areas Facilities: Supervise, assess, and perform maintenance/repairs of structures, equipment, roadways, and trails; Supervise all EKU facility services and contracted projects; Administer organization of all facilities to meet the needs of visitors to ensure appropriate and efficient use. - (Essential)
- 25% - Resource Management: Maintain and protect the integrity of the properties; Serve as liaison between EKU and local, state, national and non-governmental agencies regarding natural resource management and protection; Supervise, report, and coordinate the monitoring, protection, and treatment of sensitive and invasive species; Supervise and report weather observation through National Weather Service and National Atmospheric Deposition Program - (Essential)
- 25% - Provide Visitor, Research, and Environmental Education Support: Assist in the development and provide educational programming conducted at the Natural Areas (K-12, University, professional); Develop and provide guided hikes and special events at all natural areas; Train guides at Lilley Cornett Woods for regularly schedule hikes; Assist in the development and aid in research conducted at the Natural Areas; Assist with recruiting groups to the natural areas - (Essential)
- 15% - Resource Crew/Volunteer Coordination: Supervise the seasonal Crew Coordinator and assist with recruitment, training, placement, and activities of students as part of resource management crews; Develop volunteer program and provide training; Maintain resource trailer tool inventory. - (Essential)
- 5% - DNA operations support: Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to weekly/monthly/yearly reports, supervision of other employees/volunteers, network, and provide/complete professional development - (Essential)
- 5% - Provide Security: Support Site Managers in establishing and maintaining rapport with adjacent landowners and greater community; Work with Site managers to solve problems when issues arise; Complete other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
