Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Social Media Coordinator position in Student Affairs. The Social Media Coordinator is a part-time (18 hours per week), casual position with no benefits, starting at $20.00/hour. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community and a top-performing dining program.

As the Social Media Coordinator in Student Affairs, you will be responsible for developing social media content that resonates with college students, with a special focus on Instagram.

In this role, you'll create visually appealing and engaging photos, videos, and written content intended for social media, telling the story of Amherst College's Student Affairs and its diverse students and staff. You will work closely with the Director of Communications to ensure our social media presence is vibrant, relevant, speaks to the diversity of staff and students at Amherst, and is aligned with the College's values.

The ideal candidate will also contribute to the social media strategy of Student Affairs, incorporating data collection and analysis to inform future decisions in communications.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Content Creation
  • Develop, design, and produce high-quality content, including photos, videos, stories, and reels that speaks to a diverse audience
  • Write compelling captions and posts that engage a college-age audience
  • Collaborate with staff across Student Affairs to create content that aligns with our brand and communications goals


Social Media Strategy
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a social media strategy that enhances brand awareness and engagement
  • Stay up-to-date with trends and best practices to ensure our content is current


Community Engagement
  • Connect and engage with a diverse community of students and staff on social media
  • Monitor and respond to comments and messages in a timely and professional manner
  • Engage with followers, influencers, and other relevant accounts to build community and foster relationships


Qualifications:

Required
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience
  • Experience in creating and managing social media accounts for a brand, university or organization
  • Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community​


Preferred
  • Experience in graphic design or familiarity with design tools
  • Basic video editing skills
  • Previous experience working within a college communications or marketing role is a plus
