Assistant Teaching Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering

 

Position Description

 

 

 

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Seattle University invites applications for an assistant teaching professor faculty position to begin September 2024 or January 2025. Individuals with a PhD in civil engineering or closely related field are encouraged to apply. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have structural engineering and mechanics expertise along with a broad background in civil engineering.

 

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department is housed within the College of Science and Engineering.  The undergraduate civil engineering program is ABET accredited and supports the university’s mission of educating the whole person, professional formation and empowering leaders for a just and humane world. The department offers a M.S. in Structural Engineering.

 

The successful candidate will have a strong interest in teaching and mentoring students, and a genuine desire to contribute to the mission of Seattle University. Responsibilities will include teaching fundamental undergraduate civil engineering courses, advising year-long, industrially sponsored, multidisciplinary civil engineering capstone projects, and teaching contemporary science/engineering topics to non-engineering majors.

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

 

 

A Ph.D. in civil engineering or a closely related field is preferred. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or completion of the FE examination with plans to pursue PE registration, and professional experience are desirable.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $69,500 to $82,500 for academic year.

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.
