Job Description

NAU Dining Maintenance is part of the Campus Services and Activities department and supports over 30 dining locations on the NAU campus as well as the High-Country Conference Center. This position reports to the Commercial Kitchen Maintenance Supervisor and works closely with campus food service staff to install and maintain the equipment, kitchens, storage space, and eating areas for the NAU Campus Dining program.

Maintenance Work Orders - 40%
  • Perform repairs and service on a wide range of commercial kitchen equipment with an emphasis on electrical and electronics repair and respond to support requests from an on-line work order system in multiple commercial kitchens and dining units across campus.
  • Ensure all lighting is working properly in the dining halls.
  • Some work orders may include basic plumbing, working with gas and steam.

Project Work/Preventative Maintenance Scheduling - 25%
  • Assist the supervisor in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance schedule for dining and conference center equipment with special attention to electrical equipment (high and low voltage) as well as electronic components and low voltage control systems
  • Review construction documents and dining project plan-sets for maintenance issues or concerns.
  • Be available for end-user interactions with dining staff needing consultation on equipment status or proper operation.
  • Schedule special training or consultations as needed.

Equipment Install, Repair, and Replace - 20%
  • This position is a member of the Campus Dining maintenance team and will perform repairs for the NAU Campus Dining program with special consideration for projects involving any electrical components.
  • Installing or replacing conduit, breakers, cord caps, receptacles, disconnects, and ensuring the equipment has the proper writing.

Safety - 5%
  • Maintain manufacturer repair certifications, county health code awareness, and certification in appropriate OSHA standards.
  • Maintain inventory and proper maintenance of tools and instrumentation.
  • Immediately correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any non-correctable conditions to supervisor immediately.

Special Event Support - 5%
  • Assists with temporary food service equipment set-up including but not limited to temporary electricity, water, cooking gas, lighting, refrigeration, mobile food service units, and sanitation stations as requested by Campus Services operations staff at various indoor and outdoor locations across campus
  • Provide on-site support for special events including some off hours, weekends and holidays.

Other - 5%
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • During the winter some snow removal will be required.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Possession of a current Arizona Type D driver's license.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 years of maintenance and repair experience with an emphasis in the electrical trade.
  • Current or past license as a qualified electrician.
  • Completion of electrical training certification through vocational or technical training program.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of electrical theory, safety, and practice.
  • Knowledge of low-voltage control and electronic communication protocols.
  • Must have basic computer and documentation skills.
  • Ability to complete or learn basic plumbing repairs such as PVC pipe replacement, O-ring replacement, or supply line replacement.
  • Ability to complete or learn visual inspection techniques for refrigeration equipment and basic refrigeration troubleshooting.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Experience in the dining service or commercial kitchen field.
  • Experience with commercial line-level electrical system.
  • Experience with low-voltage and control system electronics.
  • Experience with kitchen exhaust systems and make-up air system.
  • Experience with commercial refrigeration systems.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E or NEC standards.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted health code requirements as related to site conditions and equipment in kitchens and serving areas (Coconino County preferred).


Driving Requirement

Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver's license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Anticipated salary range is $40,000 - $45,000. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The incumbent is eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time according to University policy. Further, the employee must submit timesheets that accurately reflect all hours worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position.
