Tenure-track Faculty Openings and Teaching Fellowships

Applications begin with assembly of an application file. This is complete when it contains the following materials:

• A very important part of the candidate’s file: a letter explaining in some detail your understanding of St. John’s College, and how you envision yourself as a tutor here, given the requirement that tutors teach across the Program. It is especially helpful when candidates give special attention to those parts of the Program outside of their expertise.
• A resume of educational and professional experience, of honors, publications, and professional memberships.
• At least three letters of recommendation from former teachers, students, or colleagues. Please do not send class evaluations from students.
• Transcripts of completed formal academic studies (undergraduate and graduate).
• Brief manuscript or published articles.

St. John’s College, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, invites applications for tenure-track faculty appointments and for one- and two-year teaching fellowships. Applicants interested in applying for both the tenure track positions and the teaching fellowships will need to upload their complete materials for both. The successful applicant will embrace St. John’s vision of a unified program of instruction in liberal education, anchored in reading of great books and integrating the liberal arts and natural science. Our faculty are drawn from many disciplines but united in a non-departmentalized community of learning in which they teach throughout our program, across disciplines, and outside of their areas of expertise. Our college remains committed to all classes being intimate and conversational (with fewer than 20 students) and taught by tenured or tenure-track faculty (we do enrich our community with a small group of visiting tutors and teaching fellows).
