Summary
The Laboratory Manager for Cancer Neuroscience is responsible for overseeing the scientific and operational activities of a multidisciplinary research laboratory focused on the intersection of neuroscience and oncology. The role demands a deep understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of these fields. The Laboratory Manager will also be responsible for coordinating preclinical and clinical-translational investigations, ensuring that the research is aligned with the broader objectives of the Center for Cancer Neuroscience and Department of Neurosurgery.
Job Duties
- Scientific Leadership (30%)
- Implement a strategic research agenda in the field of Cancer Neuroscience.
- Keep abreast of the latest scientific advancements and technologies in neuroscience and oncology.
- Provide scientific mentorship to junior researchers and staff.
- Research Management (20%)
- Oversee the design, execution, and analysis of experiments.
- Ensure the quality and integrity of research data.
- Coordinate with other departments for multidisciplinary projects.
- Resource Allocation (10%)
- Manage laboratory resources, including personnel, equipment, and budget.
- Prioritize projects and allocate resources based on scientific merit and institutional goals.
- Clinical-Translational Coordination (10%)
- Facilitate the translation of preclinical findings into clinical studies.
- Liaise with clinical departments to design and implement translational research projects.
- Compliance and Ethics (10%)
- Ensure that all laboratory activities are compliant with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
- Uphold the highest standards of research ethics and integrity.
- Communication and Collaboration (5%)
- Help publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Present research at national and international conferences.
- Establish collaborations with academic and industry partners.
- Personnel Management (15%)
- Recruit, train, and supervise laboratory staff and researchers.
- Funding and Grants
- Identify funding opportunities and manage grant application processes.
- Manage existing grants.
- Performs other job related duties as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.
- Ten years of relevant experience in the fields of neuroscience and oncology.
- Experience as laboratory manager desired.
