Summary

Research Technician I will join a multidisciplinary group studying mechanisms of skeletal muscle disease. They will learn and be expected to handle mouse colony management and genotyping, and perform SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophorysis and western blotting. They will also perform studies on muscle structure and function. and will learn to analyze data, help write manuscripts, keep a laboratory notebook with extensive details of all experiments that they perform, and will be expected to participate in laboratory meetings.

Job Duties
  • Performs responsible research work that requires planning, completing, and occasionally supervising limited research projects in accordance with general plans approved by the supervisor.
  • Conducts routine laboratory experiments for the development of robust models of mouse myopathies.
  • Performs animal experiments and mouse colony management.
  • Conducts genotype mice.
  • Prepares solutions.
  • Collects, compiles, evaluates, and analyzes data.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Documents results of experiments handled in the lab in the laboratory notebook.
  • Operates, maintains, and cleans lab equipment and work area.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with mouse models.
  • Excellent opportunity for an individual to gain lab experience while applying for graduate or medical school.
