Under the direction of the Controller, the Senior Accounting Administrator, performs professional accounting work involving budgeting, auditing, and accounting functions relative to the general fund, Milwaukee PBS fund, enterprise funds, agency funds, and capital project funds. This position coordinates, analyzes and distributes monthly enterprise reports, as well as special reports requested by institutional personnel, funding sources, and other outside parties as assigned. Work is generally diversified requiring knowledge of accounting, budgeting and auditing and requiring independent judgment, analysis and decision-making skills in accordance with established policies and procedures. Assignments are completed independently and reviewed by the Controller.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  • General Ledger/ Account Reconciliation and Administration: Analyzes and verifies integrity of general ledger accounts. Assures that account balances, specifically, due to due from accounts, and the agency and enterprise fund accounts are balanced as well as that they post to the correct closing account with the correct tags attached. Performs master control bank account monthly bank reconciliation and prepares month-end journal entries.
  • Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Report Management and Submission: Prepares and submits to WTCS’s MATC Cost Allocation Reports due (April, July, & Nov) and prepares, analyzes and submits to WTCS’s MATC yearend UFFAS report, as part of WTCS funding requirement.
  • Milwaukee PBS Report Management and Submission: Prepare Milwaukee PBS’s annual ‘Station Activity Benchmarking Study’ (SABS) and ‘Annual Financial Report’ (AFR). Submits reports to Corporation for Public Broadcasting as part of Community Service Grant funding requirements.
  • Accounting Reporting, Inventory, and Auditing: Preparation of MATC’s audited financial statements and Enterprise Fund financial statements for MATC’s comprehensive annual financial report. Organizes and performs bi-yearly physical inventory testing of Food Service and Instructional Food Service physical inventory. Organizes and performs yearly physical inventory testing of Bookstore physical inventory.
  • Outside Agency Relationship Management: Collaborates with county, state, federal agencies, and other outside stakeholders on financial reporting. Assists in preparing, filing, and paying to Wisconsin Dept. of Revenue MATC’s monthly Wisconsin Sales & Use Tax, and Milwaukee County Local Exposition Tax as well as provides necessary reports for external stakeholders in coordination with the Controller.
  • Financial Policy Creation and Monitoring: Assists enterprise fund and agency fund budget officers with development and implementation of methods and procedures for the preparation of annual budgets and other financial policies.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Establishes, maintains, and enhances positive work relationships with staff, faculty, administrators, and outside parties including government agencies.
  • Continuous Learning & Professional Development: Maintains current knowledge of best practices and standards in accounting for higher education with an emphasis on community Colleges. Actively organizes and/or participates in applicable workgroups, trainings, workshops, seminars, committees and professional associations or conferences to promote continuous learning.
  • Other duties: Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.

Qualifications

Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirement, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.

Required Education & Experience : Accredited Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field; Three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in related field.

Preferred Education & Experience : Accredited Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field; Five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Solid knowledge of financial and managerial accounting principles and the ability to apply such knowledge to budgetary and financial reporting activities.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting practices, preferably in public tax supported institutions.
  • Experience working independently to analyze available information, draw conclusions and understandings, and present such conclusions effectively to senior management.

Start Date - This position reports to the Controller.

Hours - This position is a 1.0 FTE or 40 hours per work week. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8am - 4:30pm.

Salary - Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2024/2025 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
