Assistant Professor of Chemistry (Physical Chemistry) - 000127

The University of Richmond Department of Chemistry invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Physical Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2025.

We are especially interested in applicants with cross-disciplinary research expertise in biophysical, materials, polymer, and/or environmental chemistry. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to mentoring a diverse and inclusive community of undergraduate students in both the classroom and in the research laboratory. A Ph.D. is required and post-doctoral training is strongly preferred. We seek an effective teacher who will contribute to lecture and laboratory courses at the introductory and upper levels related to their areas of expertise, and will establish and maintain an active, externally funded research program involving undergraduates. The University of Richmond is a highly selective, private, primarily undergraduate institution offering ACS-certified degrees. The Chemistry Department graduates more than 45 chemistry and BMB (biochemistry and molecular biology) majors each year and is staffed with faculty who are committed teachers and active research scientists. Our excellent support staff, instrumentation, and modern facilities are conducive to the support of high-level teaching and research activity.

The University of Richmond is a private university located just a short drive from downtown Richmond, Virginia. Through its five schools and wide array of campus programming, the University combines the best qualities of a small liberal arts college and a large university. With nearly 4,000 students, an 8:1 student-faculty ratio, and more than 90% of our traditional undergraduate students living on campus, the University is remarkably student-centered and focused on preparing students "to live lives of purpose, thoughtful inquiry, and responsible leadership in a global and pluralistic society."

The University of Richmond is committed to developing a diverse workforce and student body, and to modeling an inclusive campus community which values the expression of difference in ways that promote excellence in teaching, learning, personal development, and institutional success. Our academic community strongly encourages applications that are in keeping with this commitment. For more information on the department and its programs, please see http://chemistry.richmond.edu.

Applicants should apply online at http://jobs.richmond.edu. Complete applications should include a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, a statement describing the applicant's research agenda, and a teaching statement. Involvement in and commitment to mentoring a diverse and inclusive community of undergraduate students, both in the classroom and in the research laboratory, should be evident throughout the teaching statement and research plan. In addition, please include copies of academic transcripts. Candidates for this position may be asked, at a later date, to provide the names and contact information for three references who will be asked to submit letters of recommendation. Review of applications will commence Sept. 20th, 2024 and continue until the position is filled. Questions about the search should be addressed to cparish@richmond.edu.
