Job Description Summary:The Assistant Dean works with the Dean of Nursing, Admissions, and other SMU departments to manage enrollment increases and growth initiatives. Serves as Project Manager for new program development and increases in enrollment for existing programs.
The Assistant Dean also manages activities related to program development. Assists the Associate Dean of Operations and Associate Dean of Academics in maintaining required records for programmatic accreditation and CA Board of Registered Nursing (“BRN”) approval.
Finally, the Assistant Dean facilitates administrative services encompass various activities, such as establishing infrastructure for finance, human resources, academic personnel, external relations/development, instruction/course support, facilities, and student services. The candidate must ensure that all processes align with the mission and goals of the Department and University. The individual is required to independently direct all department operations, exercise discretionary powers to resolve managerial and administrative program planning problems, and take responsibility for long-term strategic planning, coordination, organization, and staffing.

Project Planning and Coordination*
- Develop a comprehensive project plan outlining tasks, timelines, and responsibilities for program expansion and new program development.
- Coordinate with College of Nursing leadership, faculty, and university administration to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
- Represents the nursing programs, College, and University at relevant external meetings and conferences.
- Assists with faculty recruitment outreach during times of organizational expansion.
- Establishes partnerships with local nursing organizations and local schools of nursing partnerships.
- Provides information to the Dean for macro and micro budget planning for assigned areas.
- Collaborates with the Dean and other Associate Deans on ideas for program development, grants, and sponsored program opportunities.
- Collaborates with Program Directors regarding program calendars regarding program expansion and development.
- Collaborates with Clinical Coordination Team regarding clinical placements.
- Collaborates with admissions team to ensure enrollment targets are met.
- Manage the approval process with the California BRN for program expansion.
- Ensure all documentation and requirements are met according to BRN guidelines and regulations.
- Provide regular status updates to the BRN and work diligently to support and maintain SMU’s strong relationship with the BRN Nursing Education Consultants.
- Act as the primary liaison between College of Nursing leadership, faculty, university administration, and external stakeholders.
- Facilitate regular meetings, status updates, and communications to ensure all parties are informed and aligned.
- With assistance for the SMU Budget Director and College of Nursing leadership, develop an overall project budget/pro forma and determine the financial and personnel resources necessary to support the various program expansion activities, including new program development.
- Monitor project budget and resources allocated for program expansion, including new program development activities.
- Identify and address resource gaps or constraints proactively.
- Identify potential risks to project success and develop mitigation strategies.
- Address issues and obstacles promptly to minimize impact on project timelines and deliverables.
- Establish metrics and milestones to measure progress and success of program expansion and new program development efforts.
- Prepare regular progress reports and presentations for College of Nursing leadership and university administration.

Additionally, the candidate should feel comfortable and confident learning new tools, methods, and working techniques
- Experience analyzing problems, extracting insights from data, identifying key issues, and simplifying solutions
- Excellent project management skills, including the capability of managing projects.
- Minimum of three years of prior, progressive experience in teaching in baccalaureate and higher degree program(s)
- Minimum of three years of prior administrative or management experience in higher education
- Master’s degree in nursing, preferred
- Earned doctorate from an accredited institution of higher education, preferred
- Registered Nurse or eligible for licensure in California

Annual salary range: $97,330 ~ $126,530
