The Department of Environmental Studies at Wellesley College seeks an assistant, associate, or full professor whose research and teaching focus on structural environmental injustices, as well as interventions to advance environmental justice.  Priority will be given to candidates with training in the social sciences.  We are especially interested in candidates whose research employs quantitative and/or geographic information systems analysis. The teaching load is four courses per year, including a core course on environmental justice to be developed by the successful candidate.

Our Environmental Studies Department aims to cultivate values, skills, and experiences that equip students with both confidence and empathy as they prepare to tackle pressing environmental issues as scholars, scientists, activists, health care workers, policymakers, planners, artists, storytellers, and more. Wellesley attracts a diverse population of students (64% of the class of 2027 identify as students of color from the United States, and 23% are first-generation college students).  We seek a colleague who will be eager to join us in the aim of promoting inclusive excellence and a sense of belonging in our classes, research teams, and community programs. Members of underrepresented groups and women are strongly encouraged to apply. For more information about our department, please visit our website at https://www.wellesley.edu/departments-programs/department/environmental-studies.

Wellesley College is one of the pre-eminent liberal arts colleges in the United States and a distinguished global leader in the education of women. It emphasizes strong teaching and scholarship, and it supports interdisciplinary teaching and research. The Environmental Studies Department is housed in the Frost Center for the Environment, which cultivates a collaborative community across the liberal arts with programs and opportunities for students, faculty and staff.

To apply, candidates should submit:  1) a cover letter no longer than two pages in length that addresses their interest in, and qualifications for, the position; 2) a research statement no longer than two pages in length; 3) a teaching statement no longer than two pages in length that includes an explanation of the candidate’s approach to diversity, inclusion and equity; 4) a curriculum vitae; and 5) a sample publication or dissertation chapter. After an initial screening, some candidates will be contacted for the names of three references.  (References should not be included with the initial application.) Review of applications will begin on October 1 2024, and submissions will be accepted through November 1 2024. Please contact Alden Griffith (agriffit@wellesley.edu) with any questions.

Wellesley College is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer, and we are committed to increasing the diversity of the college community and the curriculum. Candidates who believe they can contribute to that goal are encouraged to apply.
