We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join the laboratory of Dr. Xu in the Philips Institute for Oral Health Research, Virginia Commonwealth University ( VCU ). This postdoctoral researcher position is available immediately to study infective endocarditis and bacterial pathogenesis in an animal model. The postdoctoral position is supported by the National Institutes of Health. The postdoctoral researcher will study pathogen-related genes using a comprehensive Streptococcus sanguinis deletion mutant library and state-of-the-art technologies including genomics, bioinformatics, and systems biology.

Prior experience with animal surgery is not required but following a period of instruction, the postdoctoral researcher will be expected to assume leadership of a team that will perform all required procedures while maintaining an emphasis on regulatory compliance and animal welfare. Required Qualifications
• Ph.D. degree and a strong background in molecular biology

• Hands-on experience in molecular biology

• Willingness to perform animal procedures

• Must be self-motivated and reliable

• Able to work both independently and as a part of a team

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Attention to detail in experimental techniques and record-keeping is critical

• Ability to train, evaluate and supervise graduates and undergraduates and peer mentor assistants

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as an employee at VCU Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with animal surgery

• Outstanding publication history
