Job Summary:
Assists departments with outreach, recruitment, and retention initiatives and projects. Organizes activities for students that support development of a campus community. Assists with new student orientations. Provides reception and clerical services for First Resort.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Must maintain enrollment in at least 6 credits at LBCC, maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout each term and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better to be eligible to work in a Learn & Earn student employee capacity at Linn-Benton Community College.
- Requires basic office and clerical skills and familiarity with general office equipment including personal computers.
- Requires good communication, customer relations and phone skills, electronic communication and writing skills.
- Prefer familiarity with department policies and procedures.
- Must be able to perform the duties of the position efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision and following well-defined policies and procedures.
- Requires the ability to prepare routine or customized reports, correspondence or materials using word processing or database applications.
- Requires the ability to learn, understand and apply college rules, regulations, and policies.
- Requires the ability to operate general office equipment including computers, word processing and database applications used at the college.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to prioritize and plan work to perform in a frequently fast-paced environment and within a designated time frame.
- Must be able to communicate clearly with diverse populations in a courteous manner, exercising patience, either over the phone or in person.
- Must have good public speaking skills.
Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred. General clerical or secretarial experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Position requires good hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, typewriter or other office equipment. Lifting, pulling, and bending are often required for setting up and breaking down events. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers.Requires the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Must be able to lift to 25 pounds. Work is normally performed in an office setting with little or no exposure to health and safety hazards. Requires some evening hours. Occasional travel to offsite recruitment activities required. Considerable time is spent working at a computer.
Essential Duties:
- Assists selected departments with outreach, recruitment, retention projects. Collaborates with staff responsible for projects or initiatives.
- Assists with reception duties in First Resort as needed. Disseminates information and responds to student and staff inquiries. Composes and types, using word processing, news releases, letters and other communications.
- Assists student services with student contacts that support recruitment, enrollment information, or retention.
- Supports Admissions recruitment programs by serving as a tour guide, participating with recruiters at high school and community events, on and off campus. Assists with winter open house.
- Works with Counseling and Career Center staff to conduct new student orientation.
- Assists with implementation of community events, including the Youth Job Fair, Career Fair, Winterfest, and others.
- Monitors bulletin board postings for adherence to college policy, coordinates the car-pooling and housing boards, and distributes information about campus events.
- Assists with the operation of the LB Lunch Box.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
