Job Summary:
This position reports to the Vice President for Institutional
Diversity and Inclusion. The Director will promote and sustain the
university’s commitment to inclusive excellence and an equitable,
inclusive and diverse campus culture by building on existing DEI
programming efforts to design, implement, lead, and assess
systemic, sustainable DEI programming across the university. The
Director, DEI Programming will work closely with the VP and Office
of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI) staff as well as
campus partners to identify, prioritize, develop, and implement DEI
programming for faculty, staff, external stakeholders, and, in
collaboration with Student Life, support DEI programming for
graduate and undergraduate students. The Director will develop both
in-person and online modules, workshops, trainings, and educational
sessions to ensure a systemic approach from awareness through
one-time trainings or workshops to embedding DEI through more
intentional and long-term programming; intentionally connect
existing and new programming to national best practices to support
university-wide DEI priorities; coordinate Heritage and History
month programming; participate in short- and long-term
university-wide strategic planning utilizing research and national
and institutional data on DEI programming; and support and
coordinate educational DEI programming across units. Outreach and
clear communication, benchmarking, innovation, creativity, and a
collaborative working style are central to the efforts of the
Director as a key liaison within the OIDI for faculty, staff, and
students and broader community, and to support and communicate DEI
priorities across the university.
Duties/Physical Demands:
- Identify and develop clear, research-based outcomes for
educational DEI programming, including workshops and trainings, to
move from awareness to behavioral and cultural
transformation.
- Collaborate and coordinate with campus partners to identify
student, staff, and faculty needs to develop appropriate DEI
programming, both online and in person.
- Collaborate across university stakeholders to implement and
assess specific DEI programming focusing on gender, disability,
racial, ethnic and religious diversity, and other topics designed
to increase awareness and support of DEI.
- Lead, coordinate, and serve as liaison for Heritage and History
month programming across the university, develop monthly
programming, and coordinate a campus calendar for each Heritage and
History month.
- Manage and coordinate requests for DEI trainings and workshops
from OIDI.
- Ensure new DEI programming maintains compliance with applicable
laws and policies, working with the Office for Equity and Equal
Opportunity.
- Communicate and disseminate information about DEI programming
resources to various stakeholders.
- Participate in various campus collaborative programs, coordinated
training and educational outreach.
- Ensure effective external communications including program and
event marketing.
- Serve as a member of various campus and community
committees.
- Compile and analyze research and data, determine necessary
interventions, and prepare reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree by first date of employment in sociology,
social work, gender and women’s studies, ethnic studies, higher
education, anthropology, psychology or other related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive leadership experience
in a higher education setting.
- Minimum of (3) three years of experience designing interactive
higher education campus diversity curriculum.
- Experience in these areas may be earned concurrently.
- Demonstrated success in creating and delivering educational
programming with diverse audiences.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with senior academic leaders.
- Experience with international faculty, staff, and students.
- Experience gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data and
statistical reports related to DEI, through both quantitative and
qualitative research.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Possess knowledge of the latest DEI research, practices, and
challenges to strategically plan appropriate DEI programming.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and conflict management
skills.
- Ability to work independently, and strong planning and
operational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement assessment plans to
improve the effectiveness of DEI programming.
- Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills working
across a wide range of audiences.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with individuals (senior
administrators, faculty, staff, graduate students, undergraduate
students) and groups across campus and in the community.
