Job Summary

Job Duties

The Resident Director will:
  • Serve as a direct liaison between the students, the student staff, and the professional staff, within ORLH
  • Conduct 1 on 1 meetings with the student staff, assisting with mediations between residents, and addressing any concerns and/or issues brought up by residents and the student staff

  • Contribute to the planning and policy formation
  • Coordinates surveys and special projects as requested by the Senior Staff and/or The Office of Residence Life
  • Manages and maintains progressive discipline procedure and documentation for Para-professional staff and Night Managers
  • Manages resident programs
  • Manages occupancy reports as required by the Assistant Director of Assignments, Marketing and Conference Services
  • Rotates on-call duty coverage as assigned, conducts a minimum of (3) rounds and provides additional staff coverage and duty during special events or holidays as needed
  • Manages weekly operations reports
  • Coordinates written evaluations of staff at the close of each semester
  • Verifies residence of students assigned to the building by ensuring roster integrity
Requested Minimum Qualifications

Education
The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in an any discipline from an accredited college or university.

Experience
At least one (1) year of professional or graduate experience in housing, residence life, or residential education is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Previous experience as a Resident Director
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
  • Events management experience
  • Flexibility with nontraditional work hours.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and other related theory
  • Ability to balance the needs of a hall facility, students and student staff
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations and the capacity to develop and maintain
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships within a diverse academic community
  • Understanding of the College’s HBCU mission and an appreciation for how HBCU traditions
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
