UNC Asheville's web designer creates, updates, and maintains the
design for the University's core WordPress website and plays a
pivotal role in establishing the overall design aesthetic, style,
and function. This includes being responsible for generating ideas,
developing creative designs, and producing efficient layouts for
faculty, staff, students, and other organizations. The designer
also provides copy-editing when needed.
As a member of the University's web team, the web designer collaborates closely with the web developer and web content manager in ITS and serves a critical role in future website redesigns and refreshes based on a new design template system recently created in partnership with Carnegie. The web designer will also work closely with graphic designers in Communication & Marketing to ensure brand consistency across print and digital media.
The web designer also supervises the digital content specialist role in Communication & Marketing, who provides support for overall website design and maintenance.

The web designer will:
- Create pages based on the University's new Kadence WordPress theme and associated page templates and dynamic block elements.
- Develop training sessions for University staff and faculty that can be delivered live and then reviewed as video sessions.
- Work with the front-end web developer to deploy designs as needed.
- Select and prepare imagery.
- Create other digital designs as needed.
- Identify and implement plugins for new features and functionality.
- Create and implement designs for emergency communication.
- Manage digital design assets.
- Troubleshoot issues as needed.
