About the Department of Animal and Natural
Sciences:
The Department of Animal and Natural Sciences at SUNY Cobleskill is
a vibrant, collegial group of over 40 faculty and staff who have
expertise in the natural sciences, biotechnology, animal science,
and agriculture. The department offers several bachelors and
associates degrees meant to support the next generation of
veterinarians, physicians, scientists and agriculturalists.
Job Description:
Main teaching responsibilities will include Cell Biology (BIOL 375) lectures and labs. This person will potentially cover Biology 1 (BIOL 111) and Chemistry 1 (CHEM 111) lab sections based on departmental needs. The successful candidate's background and expertise should be in Cell Biology, Biotechnology and/or Genetics. Additional background knowledge will determine course assignment for the spring 2025 schedule. Transdisciplinary approaches to teaching are especially welcome in our learning environment. SUNY Cobleskill emphasizes excellence and creativity in undergraduate teaching.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
- An earned M.S. in Biology, Cell biology, Genetics or a closely related field is required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working as a team member with faculty and other professional colleagues
- Some experience teaching in the sciences
- Openness toward teaching evaluation and mentorship
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the aforementioned minimum qualifications, it is preferred the candidate also have:
- An earned Ph.D. in Biology, Cell biology, Genetics or a closely related field
- Demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence; experience teaching undergraduate students
- Experience with course and program assessment and/or program development
- Knowledge in Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, and Genetics
- Evidence of excellence in educating and mentoring a diverse group of learners
- The ability to prepare and implement laboratory exercises
Additional Information:
- The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000.
- This is a temporary, non-tenure-track (10-month) appointment as a Visiting Assistant Professor.
- This position begins August 2024.
