Position Summary

Upper Iowa University is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our faculty as a Biology Lecturer/External Partner Operations Manager. This dual-role position involves both instructional responsibilities and the management of our Self-Paced Biology courses. The successful candidate will contribute to the academic excellence and continual innovation of student-centered learning at UIU. Dedicated to the Self-Paced program, this position has the potential to be remote (not on campus-position).  

Essential Duties Summary

Instruction (50%):

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in undergraduate and/or graduate biology courses.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that foster critical thinking and practical application of biology principles.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and promote active learning.

Instructional Design Maintenance:

  • Regularly review and update instructional materials and course content to ensure alignment with current industry standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the instructional design team to integrate new technologies and methodologies into the curriculum.

Execution of Self-Paced Biology Courses:

  • Oversee the execution of Self-Paced Biology courses, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to academic standards.
  • Monitor student progress and provide support to enhance learning outcomes.

Emergency Instructional Coverage:

  • Provide emergency instructional coverage for biology courses as needed, ensuring continuity of instruction and student support.

Compliance and Support for Adjunct Faculty:

  • Ensure compliance of biology adjunct faculty in Self-Paced Biology courses with institutional expectations, deadlines, and duties.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for adjunct biology faculty teaching with the external partnership, offering guidance and support as needed.

Textbook Management:

  • Coordinate the selection, adoption, and offering of textbooks and other instructional materials for accounting courses to students.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of course resources (texts, materials, etc.)

Collaboration and Reporting:

  • Report to the Dean of Academic and Educational Affairs.
  • Work collaboratively with the Science and Mathematics Department Chair, Self-Paced Program Director, and Director of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) to achieve program goals and enhance the student experience.

Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in Biology or a related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the post-secondary level.
  • Experience with instructional design and the development of self-paced learning modules.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration.
