Job Description:
Brown University Athletics and Recreation is currently seeking candidates for the Fitness and Wellness Manager position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).
The Fitness and Wellness Manager position is responsible for the daily administration, staffing, and programming of the Nelson Fitness Center and group fitness programming and initiatives across Brown University campus. Responsible for administration of group fitness, recreational programming, and personal training. This position will be responsible for the development, implementation, promotion, safe operation, and evaluation of recreation/fitness services for students, faculty, staff, and recreation members, as well as special events hosted at the Nelson Fitness Center.
All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the compliance office and appropriate parties. Employees in coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting by the compliance office and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division).
Education and Experience
- 1-3 years of experience working in the fitness industry with an
emphasis specific to collegiate fitness and wellness
operations.
- Bachelor’s Degree required in relevant fields (Recreation
Management, Sport Management, Business Management, Kinesiology,
Physical Education, or other related field) and/or equivalent
education and experience in aquatics.
- Current certification from NSCA, NASM, ACE, or ACSM
preferred.
- Experience with Excel, Word and Power Point as well as Google
calendar, drive and email preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in current fitness and wellness
programming trends including fitness testing, leading group fitness
and/or personal training.
- Experience with marketing and social media promotional campaign
management. Website content management experience, helpful.
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
and knowledge or experience with the complexities of diversity
strategies in University Athletics and Recreation.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to think programmatically, expansively and creatively
to help develop clear goals and outcomes for programs
- Must be able to push/pull/lift/etc. 50 pounds
- Excellent organizational and time management skills along with
the ability work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with the Brown
community.
- Knowledge and understanding of, and commitment to compliance
with, NCAA, ECAC, Ivy and University rules and regulations in
regard to operations.
