Job Summary:
The School of Computer, Data and Information Sciences seeks an established user experience professional to help develop and manage educational opportunities surrounding the human-centered design of computing technologies/user-experience (UX) and coordinate them with related research and-industry engagement activities. The Professor of Practice will develop, teach and manage credit-based learning opportunities such as project, capstone and internship courses; and in coordination with faculty from across multiple departments, improve related courses taught by others. The Professor of Practice will develop and manage a portfolio of regular experiential learning opportunities such as hackathons and club-based projects. They will promote credit-based student engagement with design-related research on campus in collaboration with faculty and existing undergraduate research programs. In partnership with industry relations staff, they will liaise with industry partners to develop opportunities for students to learn from industry partners and to enhance the program's quality, visibility, reputation, and impact. We seek a creative and self-motivated individual who will seek opportunities, develop goals, and work independently to achieve those goals. This position is expected to be largely in residence, but some remote work flexibility is possible.
Responsibilities: Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction associated with a single course or series of courses within an academic discipline, assists with the design and execution of administrative functions associated with academic instruction and the development of pedagogy/andragogy or assessment tools and resources to support quality student learning. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online, and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.

- Minimum 7 years professional experience in user experience design related to a variety of technology and media
- Minimum 3 years supervisory/mentoring experience or minimum 5 years experience teaching or training in credit or non-credit environments
- Established professional networks including experience with a range of industry sectors and a geographically diverse client base
- Expertise with industry-standard tools, technologies and practices used in UX design
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and foster a collaborative learning environment.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive environment in which diverse backgrounds, experiences, and abilities are recognized, supported, and respected
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching in for-credit college environments
- Demonstrated experience with user experience for augmented reality, AI systems, robotics or other new technologies
