University Comptroller

Salary Basis: Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources._Basis
Responsibilities:
1. Compile and prepare financial reports for state and federal government, National Collegiate Athletic Association, Mississippi Institution of Higher Learning Board of Trustees, the University President and Vice President, and other agencies as required on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual basis in accordance with General Accounting Standards Board.
2. Assist the Vice President for Finance and Administration and Associate Vice-President for Finance and Administration in preparing the annual operating budget. Prepare and distribute annual budgets to Vice Presidents, Division and Department heads.
3. Lead and manage the accounting, payroll and grants accounting functions to ensure compliance with GAAP.
4. Provide on-going accounting and budget support for campus departments, ensuring that training is provided to University employees and appropriate budget control procedures are in place so that departments do not exceed budget authorizations.
5. Manage Banner Finance security system for access and document flow. Coordinate with programming staff on technical issues involving relevant accounting modules in Banner.
6. Maintain University chart of accounts according to Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning and National Association of College and University Business Officers guidelines.
7. Monitor and maintain cash flow and funds invested for the University. Account for electronic funds received by the University from other state agencies.
8. Provide assistance and support for federal and state auditors in the preparation of external audits.
9. Oversees internal and external audits and preparation of audit reports.
10. Oversees major system development projects that impact financial reporting.
Qualifications:
Education & Training:
Bachelor Degree in Accounting required; CPA certification preferred; continuing professional education in non-profit laws and accounting advisable.
Experience:
Requires at least ten years of experience in Governmental Accounting, including five years supervisory experience.
Special Skills & Knowledge.
Knowledge of Governmental budgeting and specific knowledge of Governmental Accounting
Standards Knowledge of Board financial statements.
Effective time management and communication skills.
Salary:
