The Colorado State University Pueblo Library actively develops and empowers the campus community by integrating information literacy across the curriculum and providing collections, spaces, and services that facilitate learning, research, and innovation for a diverse and inclusive community. The Library actively collaborates with Information Technology Services (IT), tutoring services, and other units to provide integrated academic support for students.

Join our team at Colorado State University Pueblo as the University Archivist, a pivotal role dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history of the Colorado Chicano Movement as well as the history of our institution and the various groups that make up our diverse community. As the steward of our Colorado Chicano Movement Archives, you will work hand-in-hand with the local community to acquire, digitize, and preserve crucial archival materials. Your efforts will ensure these valuable resources are accessible for generations to come.

In this position, you will develop and manage Special Collections, encompassing rare books and manuscripts that represent the history of our community, while collaborating with various university departments to maintain compliance with state guidelines for document retention and preservation. You will play a key role in collecting, organizing, preserving, and providing access to the University's administrative and historical records in both print and electronic formats.

As a member of the library faculty, you will engage in a full spectrum of research, teaching, and outreach activities. You will support faculty and students with reference services, contribute to collection development, and may have the exciting opportunity to teach credit bearing courses in archives management.

Your expertise and passion for archival work will help shape the historical narrative of the Colorado Chicano Movement, making a significant impact on the community and the academic world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the local community to develop and promote the Colorado Chicano Movement Archives.
  • Facilitate the acquisition, digitization, preservation, and access to archival materials. 
  • Manage the Special Collections area, including rare books and manuscripts. 
  • Ensure compliance with state guidelines for document retention, preservation, and disposal. 
  • Collect, organize, preserve, and provide access to the University's administrative and historical records.
  • Participate in research, teaching, and outreach activities within the library faculty.
  • Teach credit-bearing courses in archives management, if desired

**All responsibilities of faculty members at CSU Pueblo are in accordance with the Faculty Handbook. The Faculty Handbook is the authoritative guide on specific requirements with regard to teaching assignments, scholarly activity, research, and service.

Primary Duties
Manage University Archives and Special Collections

  • Develop new and existing special collections; especially the University’s Colorado Chicano Movement Archives (CCMA)
  • Manage current and potential donor relations
  • Using current technology and software, obtain, inventory, process, organize, preserve and provide access to archival materials, including creating finding aids for archival collections
  • Expand existing oral history program
  • Identify, develop, and supervise digitization projects, including developing standards, digitizing records, creating metadata using appropriate metadata
  • Insert collections into institutional repository
  • Consult and collaborate with units across campus to ensure records retention and management for all University departments complies with the state records retention schedule.
  • Provide one-on-one reference assistance in the Archives and via email, chat, text, and phone

Engage in Outreach

  • Facilitate the CCMA Community Advisory Committee
  • Collaborate with the community to promote the CCMA
  • Plan community outreach events and educational sessions
  • Promote the Archives locally, regionally, and nationally
  • Develop partnerships with other local and regional centers with similar research agendas

Manage student workers and interns

  • Supervise student interns
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student assistants

Collaborate with Faculty to provide instruction and promote research including:

  • Teach sessions on the use of archives for various classes across the curriculum
  • Collaborate with the Chicano Studies Coordinator to engage students in archival research and oral history collection
  • Promote faculty and student research that augments the collections
  • Performs sustained inquiry into one’s discipline, leading to a practical application within the library as well as research resulting in published or presented scholarly output.
  • Serves the library, the university, and the profession through active membership on boards, committees, panels, etc.

Salary Range
$50,000 - $60,000

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science (ALA accredited) or related archives discipline to be obtained no later than May 2025 
  • Commitment to working with diverse student populations and commitment to equity in education at all levels

Preferred Qualifications

  • ALA accredited Masters in Library Science if first Master’s degree is not MLS
  • Academy of Certified Archivists Certification
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with diverse community groups
  • Demonstrated planning and leadership skills including working independently, taking initiative, and setting goals and priorities
