Early Career Librarian Fellow – Digital Services Librarian

Albert S. Cook Library seeks innovative individuals to serve as the Digital Services Librarian with our Early Career Librarian Fellows program. Our library is committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse library staff by considering applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. This fellowship program is designed to provide early-career librarians from an underserved group, who have either completed their Master’s in library science (MLS or MLIS) in the last 18 months or will complete their Master’s in library science within 12 months of hire. These are permanent positions; after the two-year fellowship, the librarians will continue in their role. There is an opportunity for librarian fellows to complete projects in other departments during the fellowship portion of their appointment if they have the interest to do so. This is an opportunity for rapid professional growth and we encourage new perspectives and fresh ideas. As this is an early career opportunity, we encourage applicants with interest in the designated area to apply, whether or not they have work experience or coursework in this area. The first two years of the program will be dedicated to researching a new program or initiative, with the goal of creating a plan to launch the program at the conclusion of the two years within Albert S. Cook Library. Master’s degree must be completed by start date or within one year of hire; the Fellows may receive work release time of up to 50% to complete their degree. Commitment to developing a career in academic librarianship; knowledge of issues and developments in academic libraries. Demonstrated interest or experience in diversity and inclusion initiatives. Strong commitment to supporting the academic and research needs of students, faculty and staff. Reporting to the Head of Library Information Technology, the Digital Services Librarians investigate technologies that improve the research lifecycle for Towson University faculty, students and staff, including, but not limited to, data repositories, improved institutional repositories, faculty profiles, research impact systems, digital humanities software and systems, etc. A goal of this project is for the Fellows, working independently or with a mentor, to develop, complete, and report research or creative work at a conference or as a publication. The Fellows will serve on library and university committees and participate in professional organizations. The Fellows will benefit from formal and informal mentorship, funding and encouragement of professional development, and a focus on career planning. Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian for Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA), the Archivist for Digital Collections and Research (ADCR) will join the SCUA team with primary responsibility for ensuring digital access to SCUA’s engaging and expanding digital cultural heritage collections and bringing the overall program to the next stage of maturity. The ideal candidate will be someone eager and unafraid to experiment with tools and workflows in the service of building a nascent digital preservation program. They will be determined and confident in leading new initiatives: a technologically adept, self-directed, creative and curious problem-solver. This work includes continuously looking for ways to integrate diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice into digital archives practice and projects. The Archivist for Digital Collections and Research will investigate technologies and make recommendations for the long-term preservation of TU’s collections. In the final year of the program, the Fellow will work on a capstone project suited to their professional interests and to the needs of the library. COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS AND COMMUNICATION

Department of Music

Assistant Professor in Music

Tenure-track, 9-month full-time Assistant Professor (mezzo-soprano preferred, sopranos considered) in the Department of Music beginning August 2025. Compensated summer teaching possible. DMA (or equivalent degree) in voice performance required. ABD candidates considered but degree must be fully conferred before August 1, 2025. At least two years of teaching experience required at the college/ university level or within a qualified teaching fellowship position. Sustained and currently active solo and collaborative performances as a singer, including in staged opera, with a clearly defined scholarship/ creative activity agenda commensurate with a tenure-track faculty position. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the position, including teaching, scholarship, and service, in addition to displaying a high level of collegiality in working with diverse faculty, staff, and student constituents. Excellent musicianship and artistry as a teacher and performer with a commitment and desire to teach at a university with a strong liberal arts foundation. Evidence of excellent teaching skills in applied voice for all lower and upper voice types. Evidence of strong teaching skills in at least two of the following areas; opera/lyric theatre stage direction/production and theatrical skills development, lyric diction, vocal literature, vocal pedagogy and vocal techniques and pedagogy for music educators. Ability to teach music majors and non-majors, undergraduates and graduate students, and students across multiple degree programs. Evidence of successful recruitment and retention practices and a commitment to active participation in recruitment efforts. Piano skills sufficient for applied studio use desired. Teach applied voice lessons at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Teach weekly voice masterclass with colleagues in the Voice Division. The successful candidate will augment their teaching load through other areas of their expertise from among the following: Music for the Stage (opera workshop) - an ensemble for development of stage skills for singers through workshop programs, fully staged operas/musicals with orchestra, chamber orchestra or piano, and children’s opera outreach, a two-semester lyric diction sequence (Italian, English, French, German) for undergraduates, a vocal pedagogy seminar for upper-level students, a vocal techniques and pedagogy course for music educators. Adjudicate recitals, end-of-semester juries, incoming student auditions, and other auditions. Actively engage in recruitment activities and build relationships with area teachers. Serve as an academic advisor as assigned. Advise graduate research papers and recitals, as needed. Maintain a sustained and focused scholarship/creative activity agenda commensurate with the expectations of a tenure-track appointment. Fully participate with activities and operations of the Voice Division of the Department of Music, which may eventually include serving as Division Leader. Maintain a high level of collegiality and willingness to work in a team-oriented environment. Serve as a performing member of the voice faculty ensemble for outreach and recruitment purposes. Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures

Assistant Professor of Deaf Studies

Tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in the Deaf Studies Program of the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, beginning August, 2025. PhD in Deaf Studies, American Sign Language (ASL), or a related area required. ABD applicants considered, but appointment will be at the Instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2026. Proficiency in ASL required. Ability to teach upper level ASL courses required. Ability to teach upper level DFST content courses in two or more of the following areas: ASL Linguistics, Deaf Culture, Deaf History, Literature and Film in the Deaf Community, Development of Signed Language and Reading Skills in Deaf Children, DeafBlind Culture Communication. Proficiency in academic technology required (e.g., Blackboard, Power Point, Word, Excel, Zoom). faculty are assigned an instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year for the first year. The standard load following the first-year ranges from 6-7 courses per year. General responsibilities: Undergraduate class instruction in upper level DFST courses; academic advising; university, community and professional service; and scholarly research activities. Additional responsibilities may include participation and development of student-focused experimental learning (i.e., internship and service learning opportunities), according to experience and interest.
