Alumni Communications Specialist



Roles

Create and implement the communications plan for the alumni department, which lives within the advancement department at Northwood University. Manage multiple processes and programs for the alumni department. Produce creative copy and graphics for all alumni communication that fits within the university brand guidelines. Assist members of the advancement department with communication implementation. Supervise the student office assistant and advise the Student Alumni Network.

Responsibilities
  • Produce and deliver alumni communications via email, social media and print.
  • Create and deploy alumni social media content
  • Maintain alumni data in database
  • Supervise student office assistant and advise Student Alumni Network group
  • Develop reports for tracking of constituents, programs, events and communication
  • Assist advancement colleagues with their program communication plans
  • Participate in Advancement Department team meetings to ensure priorities are aligned with all initiatives in our department.
  • Maintain daily operations of the alumni office
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Graphic design experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Precise attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with all Northwood constituents
  • Strong multitask and organization skills
  • Comfortable learning and using multiple software systems
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends for alumni activities
  • Ability to lift and move large items as needed for events and activities
  • Must have a valid MI driver’s license and meet minimum standards of driving record.
Expectations
  • Manage daily work in the alumni database and associated communication software. Includes data entry, graphics creation, copywriting, create and manage event registrations, manage online alumni directory, update website.
  • Produce (review, schedule and send) all alumni email communication on a daily basis
  • Produce and schedule daily social media content (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & LinkedIn)
  • Manage the alumni office email inboxes and phone line
  • Manage the issuance of alumni email addresses and duplicate diploma orders
  • Assist with planning, organizing and implementing some alumni programs & after-hours activities
  • Works in collaboration with other departments (ex: Athletics, Registrar’s Office, Student Services, Admissions)
  • Advise Student Alumni Network Group
  • Ability to travel within the state of Michigan 4-6 times per year
