Education, Training, and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in Philosophy, or completion of 27 graduate quarter hours in Philosophy or related discipline.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • The ability to communicate effectively as a teacher and to operate as an effective member of a team.
  • Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer teaching experience in a community college.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office or classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety and health hazards.
  • May require arm, hand, and finger dexterity to operate keyboard or other office equipment.
  • Requires sufficient visual acuity to recognize alphanumeric characters.
  • Requires good hearing and well-developed speaking ability to communicate with staff and students.
Essential Duties:
  1. Teach core philosophy courses as needed.
  2. Act as a team member of the Social Science Department.
  3. Communicate the objectives of each course taught, grade according to those objectives, and report student progress toward those goals.
  4. Work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and ages and successfully interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an educational team.
  5. Establish and maintain opportunities for reasonable out-of-class contact with students.
  6. Prepare course descriptions, course outlines, and other material related to courses taught.
  7. Establish and maintain a class roll, and teach in conformance with approved course outlines.
  8. Participate in Student Appraisal of Classroom Learning.

Salary and Compensation Information:
Courses are paid on a per-credit basis. New Part-time Faculty begin at Step 1 of the payscale, with steps being “rolled” once per term.
As a condition of employment, all new employees are required to be compensated via direct deposit.
