Job Description
To assist Upward Bound TRIO students in the areas of career planning, meeting high school requirements, college admission; retention to include academic advising, and career advising, student advocacy, assessment, placement and other related tasks to assure that the student meets his/her educational and/or career goals.
Specific Duties Include:
Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)
Monday - Friday, 40 hours a week
Hours vary and m ay include nights and weekends
10 month appointment : Sept 1 - Dec 15, Jan 15 - July 31

Job Description
To assist Upward Bound TRIO students in the areas of career planning, meeting high school requirements, college admission; retention to include academic advising, and career advising, student advocacy, assessment, placement and other related tasks to assure that the student meets his/her educational and/or career goals.
Specific Duties Include:
- Promote retention efforts and student advocacy during the program’s academic year and six-week summer program.
- Develop student relationships and provide networking opportunities, refer students with personal issues that may affect academic progress to counselors or other support systems
- Promote, advise and advocate for potential and current Upward Bound students by assisting with career planning and program information.
- Assist in class selection, obtaining and filing financial aid and other scholarships applications.
- Assist in recruitment of perspective TRIO Upward Bound students throughout the academic year.
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
- Training in retention issues in education.
- Experience advising low-income and/or first-generation students.
- Strong interpersonal skills for diverse interactions.
- Experience documenting services, including federal grants.
- Knowledge of college programs and experience in overcoming educational barriers faced by high school students
- Proficiency in technology to support program goals.
- Training in advising low-income and/or first-generation high school students.
- Knowledge of effective instructional techniques for first-generation, low-income, academically under-prepared, and/or disabled students.
- Strong communication skills, including public speaking, teaching, interpersonal skills, facilitating workshops, and program promotion.
- Experience in implementing key components of summer programs.
- Familiarity with off-campus community service agencies.
- Teaching license and/or experience in lesson plan creation.
