Adjunct Faculty, ELSA Healthy Living I

Job Summary

The Elmhurst Learning and Success Academy ( ELSA ) is a four-year, post-secondary certificate program for young adults, ages 18-28, with differing abilities. We are seeking an individual to teach an ELSA course:

ELS 011 Healthy Living I (Spring Semester – Tuesday/Thursday 1:00-2:30)
  • This course focuses on behaviors that enhance the quality of life. It stresses human beings’ physical, intellectual, emotional, and social skills. Emphasis is on self-analysis and personal responsibility in selecting a holistic approach to health and wellness.
  • Students will gain knowledge and experience through participation in in-class activities and at the fitness center.
To be a successful ELSA Adjunct, candidates should be invested in collaboration, want to work in higher education, and be open to working with students with varying abilities.

Essential Functions
  • Plans, organizes, and delivers instruction.
  • Collaborates with Director and other adjunct faculty to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum as needed for mastery of course content.
  • Provides students with assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Documents student progress and maintains accurate records such as attendance, grading, and achievement of student learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in working and problem solving with staff regarding student/class needs.
  • Maintains office hours.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Special Education, Higher Education, Counseling or related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to collaborate and build rapport with students.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
